Do you know, something about this reminds me of a book I read years ago called "The Andromeda Strain" - they blamed deaths like that on some pathogen from outer space
(To tell the truth I'm surprised they didn't try that stunt to explain this)
Someone in the comments nailed it on the head when they said that doctors & hospitals were just trying to kill people now instead of keeping them alive & sick
