The Pentagon has given the U.S. Congress a classified defense strategy for 2022. Among the main theses of the public part of the document:
- The Russian Federation is an acute threat to the United States, as the events around Ukraine show;
- China remains the main challenge for the US and the Pentagon will work to contain it;
The United States recognizes the threats from Iran and North Korea, but is able to deal with them.
The Pentagon will adapt to the conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.
In terms of defense planning, the document states that the US will advance its goals through "comprehensive deterrence and campaigns and actions aimed at creating long-term advantages." Including through reforms.
