my adultling daughter shaves her Maine Coon regularly ... leaving 1/16 th inch ... he's older and has a bad hip that makes keeping himself clean very difficult. It's sad cuz his coat is marked beautifully but she's in kidney failure & hasn't the time/energy to maintain it.
