I guess that simply walking through the city without a mask makes me a radical activist. 80% of people in Times Square yesterday were wearing masks outside. Many people are driving with masks on. People are genuinely frightened. I’m trying to conceal my excitement around what we know is coming but I must look like the cat who ate the canary.

A large part is fear but I can’t help feeling many are wearing it as a comfort thing to keep out the cold as well. If it was summer I’m sure many would ditch the mask.
That’s a hopeful possibility and may be the case with some but I get the feeling that there is something much deeper and psychological at play.
