A puzzle for scientists was found in Shelbyville, Illinois, USA. The town was founded in 1827, which is very recent by historical standards. How the city ended up 4-5 meters in the ground is a mystery.

Have heard that some towns used to do that keep going during harsh weather, like in the winter so they wouldn't get snowed in and the town could keep prospering. Heard about some town up in Michigan that did that too. It is curious though...
