I was watching the biopic about Gandhi a few weeks ago. When he was in Pretoria, he spoke with the locals about the requirements from the British for all Indians to be fingerprinted, to carry papers with them everywhere, Indian marriages not being legitimate, and British officers having the right to enter Indian homes without cause. He said in his speech that they can imprison them, torture them, even kill them. But then, they have your dead body, not your obedience. I thought that was powerful.
