I don't think we should be making excuses for this. We simply need to remain aware that we are in an information war, and NOTHING and NO ONE should be blindly relied upon. Do your research and make your best decisions.

Honest people may simply be wrong as times. Always feel free to disagree.

Thinking for yourself doesn't just mean to switch who you rely on. Search for diverse sources and process the information as best you can. Don't think someone is more "right" just because they are more well known. Half the well known names on social media are actually imposters - e.g. the General McInerny account on telegram... so treat everyone like an anon.
