So I researched and walked this guy's steps and found the camps with the NASA trucks and they say Haughton Mars Project. If you look it up they are claiming that it is on Devon Island (which is where he is looking). There is a lot of info on the web about this project. Sounds like is to simulate the real thing due to the similarities in terrain. I can't fact check beyond that.
