As the number of moves on the board decrease each remaining move either

1) becomes more volatile/risky for both players because of the possibility of a late stage upset, or

2) leads inexorably to a check mate that already cannot be avoided

Because we all believe and trust it’s number 2), we have to expect that one or two important pieces will fall on our side as a necessary sacrifice.

The Patriots will have planned for that too.
