Most Catholics deep down know the church is corrupted beyond repair - always have, brought up in an Irish household where the mantra from childhood was to never talk to a priest about anything they can and will use against you, on the back of the 10-20% of them who are pedophiles - bodies of children being found at catholic institutions worldwide etc the current pope being a Jesuit which even hardcore dogmatic Catholics don't really trust they can smell the rot and are ready for the roof to come down.
