I am guilty as well. I remember Ronald Regan telling a story of 2 cuban imigrants swimming to make it to the US the man told the 2 men they were lucky to have made it and the 2 men said at least we had somewhere to escape to. i have never forgot that because americans really are blessed beyond measure and literally have no where to escape to very sobering and scary thought
