(USA) The Pentagon has given control of a huge part of the Internet to a mysterious company, created six months ago

April 27, 2021 - A mysterious and unbelievable piece of information, which should give grist to the conspiracists, but not only! The 175 million Internet addresses belonging to the US Department of Defense are now operated by an obscure company that was founded last September and that has not received any government contract.

above a Florida bank announced to the world's computer networks that it was now managing a colossal, idle portion of the Internet owned by the Pentagon.

This mysterious company, Global Resource Systems, was registered in the U.S. state of Delaware in September 2020 by a Beverly Hills lawyer, and it manages a huge chunk of the U.S. Department of Defense's Internet: 175 million addresses, or 1/25 of the Internet. By comparison, that's more addresses than giants like China Telecom, AT&T and Comcast.

The U.S. Department of Defense has not yet responded to requests from reporters and would not comment on this information. In a statement released, the Pentagon's chief digital officer said the company will help "assess, analyze and prevent unauthorized use of the U.S. Department of Defense Internet space."
It will also "identify potential vulnerabilities as part of measures to protect against cyberattacks by cybercriminals" who regularly target unused Internet addresses. Perhaps the military will use its Internet space to create a kind of trap for hackers. How this will be implemented is still a mystery. (cf com)
