On April 24, 2018, Johnathon Lee Porter was killed on the job. Johnathon was working to repair a gas main when a stranger approached him. Authorities believe the man asked Johnathon for a cigarette, then attacked him for not offering one. He shot the 23-year-old several times in the chest.

A month after his murder, Johnathon's first and only daughter was born. Although his killer could be seen fairly clearly from a nearby surveillance camera, he has not been identified or apprehended.
