A little history lesson. The French Aristocracy of the mid to late 1700s hated roughly 95% of the French population, dismissing them as no more than cattle. If any one man spoke up, then they would be violently dealt with, publicly and with increasing brutality.
All the People could do was watch their decadent establishment insult their intelligence and kill their families on a whim, either through starvation or through heinous executions for crimes that stemmed from either necessity in the face of an intentionally broken system or purely from the accuser's imagination.
Eventually, after years of this abuse, the People decided their heads would no longer be facing the killing floor, and the French Revolution began.
You can guess how the French Revolution ended.
