Senator Marco Rubio in Libya
The Florida Senator arrived in Libya on Thursday with other congressmen to meet with the rebels who brought down the government of Moammar Gadhafi, as well as members of the Transitional National Council (TNC).
Rubio is part of a delegation of lawmakers, including Sen. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Mark Kirk.
On this international trip, the lawmakers met Wednesday in Malta with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to discuss the country's assistance in the democratic transition and life after Gaddafi.
Rubio sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and has on several occasions expressed support for Libya's democratic transition. The Senator has also stated the important role the U.S. has in the world, but clarifies that this does not mean it has the power to solve all of the world's problems.
Rubio is expected to make statements to the press later this afternoon.
