The EpiPen used to treat severe allergic reactions, was invented over 60 yrs ago. Mylan's director of government relations (DGR) saw an opportunity and bought the rights to it in 2007. It generated 2 mill annually. After getting the FDA to broaden the label to include the risk of anaphylaxis (swelling in throat cutting off air supply), Mylan's DGR got Congress to legislate this product be placed in every school in the USA. The price was $100 for a 2 pack. Then DGR raised the price to $600, 1.5 Billion annually. Of course the DGR became CEO. Her name is Heather Manchin Bresch ( yes, Senator Joe Manchin's daughter). Bresch's pay went from $2 million to $18 million a year. In 2020, Mylan merged with Upjohn and Bresch retired. While Trump passed an executive order reducing the cost of the EpiPen for lower income citizens, on day 1, Biden rescinded that E.O. Moral of this story: it pays to be a Senators child. You have insider access to get legislation passed to reap a huge pay day.
