Standing waves are a normal occurence from earthquakes and volcanoes. They are equidistant, and travel around the world. Geologists are a bit behind the times. Earthquakes are now being forecast by multiple methods.

Look at the Ground Motion Visualization from the 07-06-19 7.1 quake near Ridgecrest, CA. This occurs in water as well.
