One leg of my genealogy was on my Mothers side traced back to 1700's, My 8th Great Grandfather Chief Netawatwees, a Lenne' Lenape (Delaware) Chief of of the Turtle Tribe, his daughter Margaret Netawatwees is my 7th G. Grandmother she lived to 95 years old, she had two sons. You can google Netawatwees as he has statues and yearly events in his name. On my Dads side Jesse James is my 4th cousin. I just wonder if certain families were targeted.
Chief of the Lenape Turtle Clan
The Lenape consisted of three separate clans: the turtle clan, the turkey clan, and the wolf clan. Newcomer became chief of the turtle clan circa 1757.

In 1759, Netawatwees established the village of Gekelmukpechunk, known as Newcomerstown to white settlers, located east of modern-day Coshocton, Ohio, which became an important Lenape village in the Ohio Country.

Both during and following the French and Indian War, Netawatwees tried to form alliances with the British. But when they failed to come to the Lenapes

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
I am pleased to see you mention 'Turtle Tribe', (it's been many yrs since I've read that name). I am of course assume it's referring to...
'👣TRIBE of TURTLE ISLAND👣'... as in the name/word they once used for America.

Please feel free to add more detail and/or correct me if I've got that wrong..🙂.

Netawatwees Lenape, eventual leader of the Turtle Clan of the Lenape (Delaware) Indians, was born in 1686[1] in the Lower Delaware River Valley< the only known child of Nutimus and Unknown Lenape Lenape. His name is spelled in a variety of ways in colonial records. Depending on the language of the recorder, it was transliterated as Netawatwees, Netahutquemaled, Netodwehement, and Netautwhalemund. In English, he was known as the Newcomer.[2] Netawatwees was identified as a chief of the Ohio Delawares about 1754 and by 1757 he was reported as one of the two principal leaders of the Ohio Delaware.
