Why Is There A Baby Inside King Cake?

Whoever found the bean or trinket in their slice of cake would be crowned the king or queen of the balls, leading up to the lavish finale on Mardi Gras.
Either way, the tradition is that whomever gets the plastic baby has to host the next party. Whomever gets the plastic baby at that party has to host the party after that.
