Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever warned at the European Industry Summit in Antwerp that the European Union risks sliding into de-industrialisation as high energy costs, heavy regulation and global competition from the United States and China drive factory closures and deter investment.
De Wever said Europe could become an “industrial museum” unless Brussels delivers urgent reforms, cuts red tape, lowers energy prices and treats industry as a strategic security asset, linking Europe’s manufacturing base to economic resilience, defence readiness and geopolitical power as the bloc seeks to balance climate goals with competitiveness and jobs.
