This began, by dividing the Kingdom into its smaller parts... Scottish, Welsh, English...

If the Kingdom had stayed focused on unity, they could have fought the Islamic invasion off more effectively.

But instead, waving flags of smaller blocks of land, who wanted their own governance (more opportunity for the enemy to gain political power), was conditioned in, as being more important, which, is how the enemy divided them.

I saw evidence of this in the early 2000s after returning from nealy 10 years away from England... St George's flags instead of Union Jacks... I even recall commenting on it at the time - but having no idea why it was happening
