The Bruges Group: Starmer is clearly finished now, but will not be "forced out" of office yet because his successor has not yet been chosen.
I don't mean chosen by the Labour Party. Or by the electorate, for that matter. I mean chosen by the people who select world leaders.
We'll know who it will be soon enough. They will start being pumped up by the media while their rivals are attacked and eliminated. Puff pieces will appear in Sunday newspapers and friendly interviews will happen on mainstream telly. Engineering a situation whereby there seems to be no alternative for the Labour Party but to choose the already anointed one. It will all be carefully choreoographed.
This process ordinarily starts years in advance as it did with Sunak. This time they're probably going to have to rush it a bit.
