We need to know what precisely we are dealing with… and how to handle that if it is beyond our current means of self-defense.

I wouldn't say anything's beyond our ability of self-defense, but it really would help to have a pocket guidebook kind of like what birdwatchers carry, except one outlining all the various vile vermin we are dealing with; human-hybrid, non-human, terrestrial, non-terrestrial, extra-terrestrial and inter-dimensional categories, for starters.

A set of special glasses or goggles to spot them at a distance would help, too.

Yeah, silver bullets, wooden stakes, garlic, buckets of holy water, bug spray, tasers, unplugging an eyeball, duct taping antenna together, or whatever… just tell us how to neutralize or short-circuit each kind.

A cricket cannot chirp with one missing back leg. Our cats used to remove one back leg and then let them live in our house with us without bothering everyone, so one year we just kept finding five legged crickets in our house till we finally figured it out.

I want these kinds of clues.
