President Donald Trump has declared the US needs Greenland, not for its minerals, but for national security.
Trump named Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on Sunday as his special envoy to the Arctic island, sparking fresh criticism from Denmark and Greenland over America’s interest.
Speaking in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump described Landry as “a deal-maker type guy” and insisted, “We need it for national protection".
"We need it for national security. We have to have it. And he wanted to lead the charge. So we're making him Marco today, special envoy to Greenland," he said on Monday.
