I think we're dealing with a whole host of malevolent entities, Hope.

Pretty confident some of them have the ability to shape-shift and look Human.
Others Body-Snatch (like Vril).
Some are non-terrestrials, just as you say.
Others inter-dimensional and need Human-ish bodies to operate physically in our Realm, thus all the cloning. (also Possession).

Thing is, our Human Eye is very limited in the frequency range of what we can see (remembering everything in our universe including all matter is just energy vibrating at a particular frequency) AND THEREFORE, if something exists in the light spectrum outside of what our Human eyes can see, then those "critters" would be INVISIBLE to us even though they are there.

Here is a WW2 Photo of GHWB and you can actually see the Demon or whatever that is attached to him by the side of his head. The CAMERA CAUGHT IT. We just can't see all those nasty critters.
