"Let's look at the journey of one of these "temporary" buildings from the 1915 worlds fair.

The Ohio Building being towed by tugboat across the San Francisco Bay in August 1916.

The building was a replica of the Ohio Statehouse (minus the dome) built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.

After the fair closed, the building was sold at auction for $1,000.

It was loaded onto two barges to make a 23-mile journey to San Carlos, where it was intended to become part of a country club.

The structure later served as an upscale restaurant and speakeasy during Prohibition before being intentionally burned down in 1956 to clear the land for an airport."
