The Trump administration announced the creation of an “American Tech Force” aimed at rapidly injecting technical talent into the federal government. The program targets early-career technologists for short-term service roles lasting one to two years.
Salaries are set between $150,000 and $200,000, significantly higher than traditional government entry-level pay. Officials say this is necessary to compete with private-sector tech firms and attract top talent.
Participants will be placed across major agencies including Defense, Treasury, Homeland Security, and Energy. Each department is expected to onboard roughly 30 to 40 fellows focused on modernization projects.
In addition to the 1,000 technologists, the Office of Personnel Management plans to hire hundreds more in project management and data science roles. The initiative also includes unpaid student internships tied to federal technology programs.
