Heat treated pallets are safer! And you could always use scrap wood or even bamboo if one is handy, willow branches perhaps, or even store bought wood. Just be careful of what the boards are treated with.

I have 6 VEGEGA raised beds which are Corrugated Metal Beds.- under is hardware cloth & Heavy Duty Garden Weed Fabric so animals cannot come up from underneath or eat the roots of the plants. Also I use mesh fabric to keep the wind out & bugs...they are 6.5' X 2' X 17" also 36" X 36" galvanized 17" tall for my flowers & fruit trees - I live in the country which means I have ground hogs, squirrels, raccoons, deer and anything else that would eat - destroy my plants...
