I understand his arguments, but shouldn't we be fixing the root of the problem? Or is this the same playbook of government creating a problem and solution that ends up taking away more power from WE, the people?

Tenth Amendment:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
