No, it’s not that. You are watching a movie. She was “shot” because her husband sold his soul to the devil to gain fame and fortune. The narrative at the time, if you recall, was huge gun control - and he made a deal to trade her for his fame and fortune. White hats replaced her (he is dead and gone) for this scene of the movie to play out. They are probably protecting her while they took care of him.
