This is what a king looks like in his final moments of life. The scene was captured by photographer Larry Pannell, who took this photo in 2018. “We found him lying in the grass, exhausted and unable to move. We were no more than a meter away from him when he died in the shadow of a tree. I dropped my camera, and we stared at each other, closing our eyes as if acknowledging the end of an era. I just wanted him to know that he wouldn’t die alone as he struggled for breath. Then, a final sigh, his last breath, and he was gone. The king was dead. Life is short. Power is fleeting. Physical beauty is temporary—I’ve seen it in lions. I’ve seen it in elderly people. Anyone who lives long enough will, at some point, become weak and very vulnerable. Let us, therefore, be humble. Help the sick, the weak, the vulnerable, and above all, never forget that we too will one day leave the stage.” Credits: Larry Pannell
