Kat, just as QTSR says, it's a great time to Stock Up - just in case of emergency - on things like dry & non-perishable food, bottled spring water, whatever necessities one needs to be comfortable. Don't forget to rotate!
Pet food, meds, etc.
10 days worth min, 30 days even better.
If one does not have enough money to stock up on food, then get stocked up from a local food bank. Fill cupboards & freezers!
Also fill those vehicle fuel tanks, just in case.
Fill those BBQ propane tanks.
Spare batteries, flashlights (cheap solar landscape lights work, too).
Your preferred self-defense tools always handy.
If you can, a portable generator (always run outdoors, use extension cords to fridge in event of a power outage) + spare fuel safely stored.
If you want, a CB or Ham radio. (CBs for sale at your local truck stop, about $350)
Know where loved ones are. Have a get-together plan. Protect children & elderly 24/7.

Yes, I also posted Q Post 2615 in this same thread. I explain that Extended Power Outages should not be of a concern to anyone, IMO. That said, short power outages could occur here and there for various reasons, including as part of MIL Ops, so to be more comfortable IF people can afford it, a backup power generator is always a good idea including for fridge/freezers. (always run outdoors using a heavy extension cord)
Note: A fridge can start warming up in just a few hours, and if power goes out it's important to keep fridge/freezer doors closed for as long as possible IF one does not have a generator.
ICE and a cooler can also work to help preserve frozen food if it comes down to that. They work even better in this season where it's not blistering hot outside.
