Erie, Kansas 2020-21, San Francisco 2000s, Chicago 2023, Detroit 1970s. All they did was drive local business out and after failing made the food desert larger than the Sahara.

And Rent freezes, while politically popular in times of crisis, trigger long-term structural damage to housing markets—especially for small landlords and aging buildings. NYC tried it before in the 1970s–1990s and these policies triggered abandonment, disrepair, and long-term housing instability.

These too will fail, and then NY will want a bail out.
