Dars, I started studying Aikido when I was a teen and always dreamed of going to Japan to learn Japanese, train and also watch their Master Sword-Makers in action. Haven't had the chance to ever do that, cuz life got in the way, but maybe after the Victory Celebrations and roll out of Medbeds, high speed Maglev trains and such that'll be my next adventure. Would be AWESOME! 😃

I was forced to take Aikido by my Dad when I was 12 and didn't want to because I was the only girl in class. Only made it to Green Belt.
Fast forward 20 years, met gym partners who were all taking Kempo Karate (street fighting Karate). Wanted to take it but hubby said NO, because I would use him for practice. LOL
Fast forward now, 30 years, at work met a guy who was Aikido Black belt and he knew my sensei. LOL
I wanted to get a "Hattori Hanzo" samurai sword after watching Kill Bill. LOL My Dad had brought home a samurai sword after his Army stint in Japan & Korea. Not as ornate as the swords I see on tv.

Now my attitude with my Wife was a bit different. I wanted her to know how to defend herself in expert fashion and protect our kids when I was away, so I first put her through Bill Cooper firearms courses, then, after she mastered the fastest draw time of everyone at 0.6 seconds dead center mass, then I got a US NAVY SEAL buddy to train her up even more, so that's my attitude. I ain't afraid of my wife, but bad guys should be. She was already a Momma Bear, so I figured she should sharpen her claws in case someone ever messed with her! 😂
Now, I LOVE Aikido utterly. Fact is, when real bad trouble rears it's head, I have more of an Indiana Jones attitude, and believe it or not, I carry a big Bullwhip in my truck behind my seat, too.

I love your attitude of helping your wife be able to defend herself. Especially training with firearms and Navy Seal training.
Hawaii is a very Anti-Firearm state. Had to date a cop to learn how to use a firearm.
I always felt Aikido, of all martial arts was more of a Defense vs Offense type. That is why I had wanted to take Kempo Karate, especially since I am really into Bruce Lee. But now I realize Jeet Kune Do is defense too.

As Bruce Lee said when people want to take his classes to learn how to fight, Jeet kune do can't protect you from a gun.

Recently, when the law was passed that HI had to offer Conceal and Carry, the Lawmakers FREAKED out with the number of applications and slow walked approval. Then the Legislature quickly passed bills making the process very difficult and banning firearms from many many places making it almost impossible to carry it anywhere. Typical Democratic State.
