Kat, America's position in Rare Earths was beyond precarious until President/CIC Trump grabbed that bull by the horns.
We depend on Rare Earths for Weaponry and other Advanced Technologies. Mining, Refining and Controlling supply of RE Minerals and Metals in general is a matter of National Security.
In 2012 we only had one Rare Earth Mine at Mountain Pass, California...and that company Molycorp became acquired by Foreign Interests and was dependent on China for refining. A very precarious situation.
"Ed Richardson, president of the U.S. Magnetic Materials Association, says the plan is worrisome. The U.S. is already โdangerously dependent on Chinaโ for rare-earth-magnet materials, including to supply its weapons systems, Mr. Richardson said in an email. Molycorpโs 'export of U.S. rare earth assets into China will only exacerbate this problem,โ he added." 2012 ๐
