Colorado Supreme Court Judges and Treason Claims
Background of the Case
In December 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 decision that former President Donald Trump was ineligible to appear on the state's presidential primary ballot. This ruling was based on the assertion that Trump engaged in insurrection, violating the 14th Amendment. The decision followed a lawsuit from six Colorado voters.

Treason Allegations
Following the ruling, a Republican congressional candidate from Colorado suggested that the four judges involved should be tried for treason, a serious accusation that carries severe penalties.

Legal Context
This case marked a significant moment in U.S. legal history, as it was the first time Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was used to disqualify a presidential candidate. However, the U.S. Supreme Court later overturned the Colorado Supreme Court's decision with a unanimous ruling.
