They are very real. I lived in an RV park, where some people were actually FEEDING one. It came to the pond by a larger body of water nearby. Then it decided to climb out of the pond and near the clubhouse. Of course it had to leave.

ha ha. as long as their in the water and i am not and can just watch them i am good.. we had on in our lake 10 feet off the condo. he was 12 feet and huge. head huge.. trappers trying to catch him... no way after two or three attempts he left with injuries but could not be caught. we never saw him again.. watched him from the lanai. not kiddy he was staring me down for 20 minutes..they are very methodical in their attack and goals. i really respected them after that encounter..but theyre not my friends!. we moved not because of that. but wanted water behind us again.we have them but not often seen.. people let us know when they are out and about. just cause we are 32 feet about sea level doesnt mean theyre not there...
