I think that particular gesture is over-identified as a "signal."

Sure, sometimes people flash it as a signal. But haven't you ever been to some formal event where you have to sit or stand for some presentation?

I have, and often my hands just end up like that because there's nowhere else to really put them. And I know I'm not flashing some secret society signal.
