At a bare minimum, the DL at least showed that we were tested on our driving ability and we had a minimum knowledge of a state's driving laws. I know it's no guarantee that we are good drivers, but to let anyone without any driving knowledge is pretty scary. Insurance will skyrocket even more due to many more accidents because they didn't know they couldn't drive on the other side of the street into traffic.
Insurance doesn't keep you safe on the road.
Nor does having a driver license.
When you drive, you drive at your own risk.
Same as everything else.
Although, it pays to become experienced at what we do.
But most drivers have a reasonable expectation that other drivers know basic driving laws.
