There are stories about evil popes, one (Innocent VIII, I think) supposedly bathed in blood. That tale might've come about due to him being given the 1st known blood transfusion by his Jewish doctor, which failed to save his life. That story painted both Innocent VIII & Jews w the same blood liable.
