The need to set a parameter and cycle through shifts, would necessitate a larger number of troops than just running one shift or a smaller parameter. The only thing troops are doing at this point is standing. They aren’t there to engage. Only to enforce a border. They have no other function unless 1. An insurrection is declared. 2. The suspension of posse comitatus. 3. The suspension of habeas corpus. We may or may not know if any of these three occur.
I find it helpful to understand that, at any given point during the day. There are roughly only 3000 Border Patrol agents in the field at once. That’s how few active field agents there really are.
So yeah. To secure and hold an area that small, really does take that many. Considering they hacked up the cement bollards? I prefer that they be able to fight back.
