Kris Williams

All you farmers and Gardeners out there, I am looking for some help with plant identification.

I am not sure if this is a weed, a flower, or even a Veggie. I did not plant it and I have a few growing. And strange growth on the bulb at the top.

What is this plant or weed?

Kind of looks like an onion, or even maybe an allium?

Ok, so using the Cooperative Extension's advice, the hollow and round stem of the plant, then this happens to be a Wild Walking Onion!!!

Very cool! And it is edible!!! 😎

I sent pics to my cooperative extension and he said that if it is a walking onion, it is round and hollow for the stems. If it is wild garlic, they consider it to be a weed (very very strong and pungent) around here, and it would have flat and not hollow leaves. I am going out to see what I can see now.

But it looks like the Hair Allium to me!

It definitely looks like a member of the allium family. I have Egyptian walking onions in my garden and they are thicker than the plants you have. It may be a wild variety of onion. I would suppose they are edible, but not sure what you have there.

I will see if I can take it to the Cherokee or the Cooperative Extension maybe, and see if they know, I don't want to eat anything I am unsure of.

Ok, so what do I do with it? Eat it? Plant the seed heads? Do I chop the seed heads off or pull the whole plant? I did already transplant one already, it is going to see fast though.

Hmmm. Could it be this? It looks like the seed head when the leafes are removed...

Egyptian Walking Garlic?

My guess... walking garlic or walking onion. You should be able to tell the difference by the scent.
