So he took a chance.

Hanging on would be an option to be rescued instead of dropping and becoming a piece in their thousands of years of history.

Who Knows...
The rescue crew could be dirty and take him right back to where he started.

I remember that!! He does look older than they portrayed him as being. However, trying to save your life may make you look longer.
