DEI: Chicago’s teachers insisted that higher pay would unlock student success. The city obliged, hiking per-student spending by 70 percent and boosting average teacher salaries to $100,000. The result? Failure on a grander scale. Today, just 11 percent of black students in Chicago are proficient in reading — a tragic monument to the bankrupt promises of a broken system.
That is abysmal. The whole education system needs to be restructured. The tests will tell who is learning deficient by the second or third grade. Sometimes it's a processing disorder like dyslexia, sometimes it's the home environment, possibly resulting in ADHD or lead poisoning. Often, there will be too many bad teachers in succession. You can not learn in a hostile environment. My daughter's friend moved to Chicago to live with her father. She was so academically advanced that she skipped her junior year and graduated early. That would not have happened in the school system she came from. They had much more to teach her here. What is going on?
