If I hear there's trouble in town, I AVOID IT, stay away or just stay home & protect my Castle.
When driving in town I'm super alert keeping an eye on all sides/mirrors with my head on a swivel. Watching BEHIND me. Door's locked, windows up, self-defense at the ready especially in stop & go. I don't zone out especially in slow traffic or at stoplights. 100% ALERT & AWARE. I leave enough room to the car in front of me so I can drive around it without backing. If in heavy highway traffic, I stay in outside lanes (right) so I always have an exit. When on the highway I also look way far ahead. If I see trouble, I'll do what I have to get out of danger even if it means exiting, driving over medians, doing a U-turn or putting it into reverse in the shoulder lane.
One gal I know kept driving Uber during the 2020 riots (had kids to feed), turned wrong way into a "peaceful protest" & got a bullet through her passenger door. She was fortunate it only hurt the car.
