American Airlines JFK terminal 8: International to domestic transfer, Security check needed?

International: AA 293: Del (India) -> JFK

I.5 hours layover

Domestic: AA 2819: JFK -> ORD

Questions:

Is Security Check needed again in Terminal 8 JFK - even when both the international and domestic flights are in the same terminal?

For rechecking the bags for the flight JFK - ORD is there a quicker way, like a transfer desk (or similar)? Or does one have to go back to the CheckIn area and stand in a line?
