I would imagine ONLY CCP family members/student were allowed to even get exit visas from China to come to America to study, and then when those students return to China for whatever reason, they would surely be required to hand over ALL the technical university research and project information they are/were working on to the CCP if not the PLA directly.
I doubt many if any of them were pursuing Art History degrees. Most if not all enrolled in technical studies, that's my bet.

Many US professors profit from CCP. The Confucius centers bring in agents and students. They infiltrate laboratories and the Chinese students are harassed. Universities profit from these centers too. I hope they are being dismantled. I was supposed to host one of their scientists but vigorously refused.
