In an interview this week, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said President Donald Trump wants to revamp the tax system and eliminate income taxes for most Americans.
If that happens, more than 76% of American households would no longer be paying income taxes. The move would increase take-home pay.
But that doesn't mean there would be no federal taxes, only that it would shift from the current system to a different way to fund the government. State and local taxes would also still exist.
"How about no tax on tips? How about no tax on overtime? How about no Social Security? How about all those things — these are the kind of thoughts that will change America," Lutnick said in an interview with CBS. "I know what his (Donald Trump) goal is ... no tax, for anybody who makes less than $150,000 a year. That's his goal. That's what I'm working

I think it reversing what was done in the dark slowly over decades in the light quickly by using tariffs. It seems like this would be a transition form [their] system.
Take burden off the workers first. ~80% of the people, then eliminate the rest.
