Please consider a different way of viewing this. This MSM publicity is generated by rich people not wanting to pay taxes on massive estates. Its not from any concern for pensioners losing their homes.

States can't generate revenue from tariffs or money printing like the fed gov can. How do they pay for services? (This question assumes a legit gov providing needed infrastructure.)

Income taxes on wages tends to let the top 10% skip on taxes because their incomes come from investments not wages. The burden then falls nearly exclusively on the middle class.

Property taxes are a legit method of a graduated tax. It hits the elites hard, is easily quantifiable, easily enforceable, and also catches foreign owners. Of course the elderly and disabled shouldn't be taxed out of their homes. This is from government corruption, not an unfair tax method, and it could be stamped out if the gov was honest.

Farmers are being victimized as well. For them, its a land grab.
