I grew up very Catholic. For many years, I received the ashes on Ash Wednesday. It was a spot, a round fingerprint-type mark, never a cross. Does anyone else remember it this way?
Sometimes it looked more like a smear. Depended on which priest, and how fat his fingers were. Now Marco Rubio got the full 'cross'
